No Last-Minute Pardon From Bush For Publisher Charged With Fraud

Former publisher and newspaper tycoon Conrad Black’s request for a pardon was turned down by President George W. Bush during the president’s last hours in office.  Lord Black, a member of the British House of Lords who has owned newspapers in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, was convicted of fraud and obstruction of justice in 2007 in connection with charges that he defrauded stockholders when he diverted millions of dollars from Hollinger, Inc.  Black had hoped for a last minute pardon from the outgoing president, but now must continue serving his sentence in a Florida prison.
